Good Energy has been shortlisted for two prestigious accolades celebrating “outstanding achievements” by the region’s top companies. The pioneering renewable energy provider is a finalist in the 2023 Business Leader South West Awards, which attracted more than 300 entries.
The Chippenham company has been shortlisted in not only the Sustainable Business of the Year category but also the Inclusion and Diversity category. The winners will be announced at a gala dinner at Ashton Gate in Bristol this Thursday 21 September.
The Sustainable Business of the Year nomination relates to how Good Energy volunteered to sign up to the Science Based Targets initiative committing it to the ambitious goal of a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030.
It has already made significant progress by moving the whole team, who previously worked across two sites, to a single office in Monkton Park which is powered by 100% renewable electricity and green gas. It also switched to a hybrid-working model which allows its 350 staff to work from home for part of the week if they wish, resulting in commuting emissions plunging by 80 per cent since 2018.
Sustainability and facilities manager Cherish Jackson said: “It’s great to be shortlisted for such a prestigious award, recognising the huge progress we’ve made in switching to a cleaner and greener way of working.”
The Inclusion and Diversity nomination highlights the company’s Inclusion Champions volunteers who suggest areas for improvement, monitor progress, and arrange access to training and development opportunities.
They also work with Good Energy’s communications team to share their stories with the media in support of national awareness campaigns featuring topics such as ME and autism.
Inclusion Champions co-chair Mair Horscroft said: “Genuine inclusivity is increasingly valued by jobseekers who want to know they can bring their true selves to work. The shortlisting is a tribute to the team’s success in encouraging a truly welcoming environment.”
A spokesperson for Business Leaders South West said: “Our awards serve as a platform for the most influential leaders in business, education and government to come together.
“Their purpose is to acknowledge and celebrate outstanding achievements.”
Good Energy was founded in 1999 and boasts a 100% renewable electricity mix, consisting of wind, biogeneration, solar and hydroelectricity projects from more than 2,000 independent generators across the UK, as well as providing heat pumps and solar installations.
