Local charity Trowbridge Future is launching a Christmas campaign to help fund its support projects for young people and communities.
The charity appeal features a Christmas gonk, a character inspired by the Scandinavian and Nordic folklore of gnomes and hobgoblins who sheltered with families in cold weather and were said to bring good luck and protection to those who treated them well.
“Gonks are the perfect Christmas character for Trowbridge Future because we’re all about creating warm, welcoming spaces for everyone in our community,” said Meg Aubrey, Chief Executive of the charity.
“We hope the fundraising campaign will help to raise awareness of how we support people in Trowbridge. Times are extra tough and our services are more important than ever - creating community support through our kindness cafe, feeding bellies not bins via our community fridge, and providing fun up-skilling activities for our young people to name just a few of the projects we deliver.
“Taking a few minutes to find out about what we are doing locally, helping us to spread the word by sharing our social media and supporting our appeal if you can would really make a difference this Christmas.”
The charity is encouraging people to visit its social media channels to catch the gonk on his travels around Trowbridge and enter a prize draw to win the Christmas decoration (Terms & Conditions available on the Trowbridge Future website).
